Get the help you need

Joanne Schwartz, MSW, RSW, is an Addictions Counsellor

My philosophy is that addiction is a symptom, not a cause. Many of us use various coping behaviors to escape the stress in our everyday lives, some of those can be drugs, alcohol, sex, shopping, gambling or various other habits. If you feel that some of these habits have gotten out of your control, it may be time to get help. Do you struggle with feelings of shame, guilt, sadness, frustration or powerlessness? Do you ever feel hopeless or depressed? Sometimes addictions can overtake our lives before we even realize what is happening. I want to help you through this. I believe change is possible.

I am based in Vancouver, British Columbia with ten years of experience working with people with a variety of challenges, including as an addictions counsellor.  I teach courses for people wanting to become Addictions Counsellors themselves at a local community college, am a certified core addictions practice facilitator and have presented at various conferences on issues faced by people with addictions. As an addictions counsellor, I have run support groups for people with addictions and various other support and psycho-education groups teaching coping skills to people in need.

If counselling is something you have been considering, online counselling is a great way to start. What could be easier than turning on your computer, tablet or phone and doing a counselling session from your own home or office?
